"Big markup on 1st Class stamps at shop counter"

I purchased a book of six 1st Class stamps. I left the shop and discovered that I had been overcharged (or so I believed). I went back into the shop and complained. The shop assistant scanned in a book of six 1st Class stamps in front of me. They came up at £5.06 or 50p more than a book of stamps from the Post Office which are £4.56 a book. I checked with the person manning the Post Office counter a few yards away to confirm the difference in price. It’s a massive markup, which doesn’t seem right to me. I have resolved never to shop there again on principle, though I will use the Post Office..
